Caching, Ice Cream, and Camels

Yesterday, we met our caching friends early in the morning to do some caches. Another caching friend of ours hid 14 caches out in the desert to show his students how to geocache. We got to find them before they were officially published by the geocaching website. Anyway, our Bahraini friends said to come hungry because they were treating us to breakfast. It was probably the most tasty breakfast we've ever had. It was a traditional Arabic breakfast they picked up at various bakeries earlier that morning. I can't recall the names of the different foods we had, but we had two kinds of pits breads freshly made. These little fried pocket things and little doughnut type things. The doughnuts were sooo amazingly good! Apparently only one bakery makes them on the island and they are famous for them. It's a secret family recipe that had been passed down from generations to generations. To wash everything down we had hot karak tea...also sooo good! We all ate outside our vehicles in the parking lot of the oil museum. We were going to go inside the museum for a little visit before our caching began, however it was closed at the time.
After breakfast, we got back in our vehicles and headed to the cache site out in the desert. We all overdressed for the occasion; it was a lot warmer out than we thought. We left our cars at the first cache and decide to hike to the rest of the caches because it was such a beautiful day. We only got one cache done, when we saw the ice cream truck come down the road towards us. At first we thought it must be a mirage out there in the desert! LOL Actually this time of year there are a lot of people camping in the desert. When I say camping, I don't mean the type of camping we do back home. Their camping is complete with a full size tent probably about the size of most houses back home, full electricity, running water, showers, satellite TV and even all the appliances and furniture you would find in your house. LOL
Anyway, getting back to the ice cream truck. We stopped it and one of our caching friends treated us all to some ice cream. It was the hard ice cream kind and you ask what kind you want by its' colour. LOL I wish we had a photo of the different kinds we had. They were all very VERY BRIGHT colors! As Steve said, colors you wouldn't find in nature. LOL I had blue, Steve had yellow, and Tyler had pink. The ice cream was OK tasting. One thing we've found out that they don't really have great ice cream here in Bahrain. But oh well, you can't win them all. LOL

We got a few caches done after the ice cream truck adventure, and came across a camel farm!! It was so exciting for us all. We had our photos taken with them. There was even a newborn camel and his mom. We saw a few more camels out in the desert, but our caching path didn't take us very close to them. All I kept thinking was how awesome an experience this is for Tyler. What a great memory to have of Bahrain!
We continued to find 14 caches. It was a wonderful day spent with our good friends. We finished our day by having lunch together at McDonald's. We added another page to our adventures in Bahrain!
