Day 1 Crete Vacation Agia Triada Monastery & Chania

As you may have noticed, I haven't posted anything here in over 2 weeks. The reason for that was because we were on vacation during that time. We took the free space-A military flight to the beautiful island of Crete, Greece. This wasn't our first time there, however; Steve was stationed there for two years (2000-2002) and I visited there twice (2001 & 2003 while we were stationed in Sicily). Crete is one, if not our most favorite place in the whole world. It is a place where time is slowed down and you feel completely relaxed. The food is the healthiest in the world. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking with unending mountains and glorious deep sea green water at the beach. This trip was even more special because we got to share this special place with Tyler. It was his first taste of Europe.
After a little delay in our flight, we arrived tired, but extremely excited to start exploring this amazing island. After picking up our rental car, we headed to the mountains were we visited the place were they make our favorite olive oil, the Agia Triada Monastery. Tyler fell in love with the many stray cats and kittens while we explored the ins and outs of the property.
After a little drive through the mountains to another nearby monastery, we headed to Chania where we stopped for lunch (a gyro) and checked into our hotel. We were delighted to find out we had a room with a cute balcony overlooking a quaint little alleyway. We then walked around town, took more photos and had dinner followed by gelato for dessert.
