Cabot Trail

The Cabot Trail has been admired for years by people all over. It has been described as the 8th wonder of the world and has won numerous awards for being a top travel destination. No trip to Cape Breton is completed without a drive around the scenic trail. However, it amazes me to hear that some fellow Cape Bretoners have not themselves explored what is in their own backyard. Erika and I have traveled around the Trail countless times, however fellow Capers, Tanya and Christine, have only done parts. Christine's husband, Gabriel, has only seen various locations as well. So the five of us hit the road for a day long expedition around one of the most scenic drives in the world! This trip around the Trail proved to be an even more special one. We found some locations we've never been to, including this spectacular spot in Margaree Harbour. As always, we have our traditional stops that we like to make along the route. The Cabot Trail has a total of 27 hiking trails all along the way. Growing up, my family would always stop and do the Bog Trail. Erika also had that same tradition with her family. So today we stopped and walked the bog. Christine has always been interested in plant life and got some great photos. Sometimes you see moose in the bog, unfortunately we didn't see any today. Another tradition is to stop and see the Lone Sheiling. The Lone Sheiling is an example of what early settler life was like. The hut used to house sheep. After doing most of the Trail, Christine and Gabriel went on ahead of us because they had plans for tonight for Gabriel's birthday, so it was just Erika, Tanya, and I left to finish the Trail. We continued to take our time and stopped in various locations such as Neil's Habour and Lakies Head. We arrived home around 7:30 after a full day of adventure. All of us had a great time and it reminded us how lucky we are to have this great beauty right in our own backyard. We are already planning for our next trip around the Trail. We would like to discover the unbeaten path and find other hidden gems. Happy Birthday wishes go out to Gabriel. It is Gabriel's 30th birthday!!!
