Day 6: Sri Lanka Vacation
Early rise at 5 a.m. to meet our driver and park ranger with a 4X4 Jeep to take us to the horton Plain National Park. Before leaving the hotel, the staff made sure we didn't leave with a nice hot cup of tea to start our day. They even packed us a lunch to take with us which was so very kind. Steve and I had chicken sandwiches and Tyler had a tomato and cheese sandwich. We all had sliced pineapple and boiled eggs too, along with bottles of water.
The drive to the park was the best. We drove through villages and everyone waved to us. There were quite a few children waiting for the school bus to come along.
Once in the park, we saw a few elk and a mongoose. We ate our lunches before we got out to start our hike. When we were finished we our journey to see Baker's Falls, Mini World's End and World's End. The hike through the fields and hills was incredible. We hiked a total of 9kms. The falls and both World's Ends were amazing and definitely worth the hike in.
We then met up with our driver again and we headed back to our hotel to obtain our stuff. However, on the way back the driver stopped and got us all yogurt at the dairy plant. We made it back to the hotel just in time as it started to rain. We picked up our luggage and then got back on the road again for a long drive to our next hotel. It was a twisty turn-y road throughout the mountains. Our driver stopped at the Rwanda Falls for us to get out and take photos. It had been awhile since we ate, so we decided since we were stopped to grab a bite to eat at the restaurant nearby. We had a huge plateful of fried rice, fried noodles and Tyler had a tomato and cucumber delicious salad. We also had the best home-fries.
Then we got back in the van again and continued to the Cinnamon Wild Hotel. It was like a hotel in a middle of a jungle. There were elephants, wild boars, monkeys, elk all around us. We actually needed to be escorted to and from our cabin. Unfortunately, we only got to stay there one night, but it was overall our favorite place to stay during our entire trip. Our room had a beautiful canopy bed and everything was brand new inside. After a swim at night in the pool, we got changed and had a buffet dinner before calling it a night.
