Big Cake Order

The CDC (Child Development Center) received accreditation for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) which is a huge accomplishment. They are the only CDC to receive this recognition and they had to do a lot to achieve it. So, I was very honored to receive the cake order to celebrate their hard work. It was a big event with the Captain of the base in attendance (he's had my cupcakes several times and is known to take two at a time...LOL. He's even asked Steve to bring them in a few times). Anyway, the event made the base newspaper and so did my cake. The cake by the way, was my biggest yet. It was a half sheet, double layer. Here's the photos:

Happy 9th Birthday, Rachael

Tyler best friend from Virginia is turning 9 years old today. She asked her mom if she could Skype with Tyler on her special day. We always talked about "Skyping" to each other, but we just never got around to doing so. Steve hooked up it up on TV which was really neat! It didn't take very long for Tyler and Rachael to get comfortable talking to each other again and before long it was just like old times with lots of giggles. They liked it so much that we decided that we're going to get together on a regular basis for "play dates". As for Rachael's mom and I, we could listen to these two all day. Some of the stuff they talk about is pretty hilarious.

Al Areen Wildlife Park

It was one of those days where we just felt like we had to get out of the villa and go somewhere, do something. Though there's not a whole lot we can do on this small island, we hadn't been to the wildlife park yet, so we decided today was the day. Thankfully it wasn't too hot outside, only high 90's. It was comfortable for walking. Equipped with our cameras, we headed to the park for a afternoon of wildlife. The park was much nicer than we imagined. There were mostly birds, and a lot of deer. For most of the park, we could travel by bus and it was overcrowded. I didn't get any photos of that part because I was sitting in the middle, not near a window. The bus stopped at the building that housed the wild cats, but they were behind glass that needed a good cleaning. I was a little disappointed that there were no elephants, zebras or even a camel, but over all it was an enjoyable afternoon. We were thankful to get out and see something different. Afterwards, we met with our caching friends at a Lebanese restaurant for dinner.

Mama Bear's Porridge

So, for the first weekend in awhile I don't have any cake orders. I thought might as well take advantage and sleep in a bit. Meanwhile, little did I know downstairs Tyler was busy preparing another one of his surprise weekend breakfasts for us. Ever since the first weekend surprise breakfasts he planned, he has made it a weekend ritual for us. Little did I know, this weekend the surprise was going to be a little bit extravagant. Tyler took it upon himself to go look up oatmeal recipes on the computer. He found one called "Mama Bear's Porridge". It called for all sorts of things, including butter (but instead used cream cheese because he thought the package was butter), cinnamon (he actually grated a stick of cinnamon instead of using the powder), eggs,  honey, as well as some other ingredients he mixed altogether in a bowl. He didn't realize at the time it was suppose to be cooked on the stove (he knows he isn't allowed to use the stove without adult supervision). We know he meant well, and it was super sweet of him to surprise us, but the kitchen was destroyed. LOL What a mess!! So much for my relaxing weekend morning. LOL We didn't care though; "the kitchen breakfast mess while Mom and Dad sleep" scenario has to happen at least once in a child's/parent's lives, right?

Surprise Breakfast

While I was busy working on a cake/cupcake order this morning and Steve was still in bed, Tyler said he was working on a surprise for us. He put up signs from our bedroom to the kitchen that he made, set the picnic table area up, and made us breakfast. So sweet of our boy

Bye Bye Bill

Another one of our geocaching members has finished their tour here in Bahrain and is heading back to the U.S. To say goodbye to our friend, we held an event in his honor at a local Johnny Rocket's restaurant. Bill has been an active member of our little group, barely missing an event. He will surely be missed by all of us. Dress code for the event was stripes, since Bill is known for his striped shirts. After dinner, we enjoyed some cupcakes from Heather's Delicious Wishes. :)
