Treating Tyler

What do you do when it is too hot and humid out to do anything outside? You go to the ice cream parlour! At least, that's what we did yesterday. Tyler had banana pudding ice cream and I had a chocolate cheesecake flavour ice cream. And as he was enjoying his ice cream, he was watching a monitor they had in the shop. It was of people eating ice cream and when they showed a baby eating some, Tyler would laugh out loud and point. It was hilarious!

I was watching the monitor too and before I knew it Tyler was sneaking his spoon into my ice cream! Both of us soon had a mixture of chocolate banana cheesecake and oh was it good!

Ripe for the Pickin'

Our cherry tomatoes wins the prize of being our first vegetable to come out in our garden! Mmmm...I love cherry tomatoes! I noticed them just the other day and I told Steve about them. He said to pick them right so that none gets wasted. Well, I was only in the house a couple of hours before I went back out to pick them and I noticed that something had beat me to it. The rest of the ripe ones were gone and there was one half eaten one on the ground! We think the rabbit we see in our neighbour's yard, might be the culprit.
Other than that, our garden has really grow a lot in the past couple of months. The tomatoes are out but still green. It is a lot of fun having our very own vegetable garden!

Nurse Nancy's Good Care

I was changing the bandage I had on my arm from my accident at the playground the other day. As I was going down the slide, I skinned my arm...LOL Anyway, at the same time Tyler was into something he shouldn't have been, so to distract him I showed him how I changed the bandage.

As soon as I said the word "bandage" his eyes lid up and he went to his Nurse Nancy book. In it, Nurse Nancy applies "brand-new bandages" to her patients. I was really surprised that he remembered the word and associated it to this book! Just goes to show that reading really is fundamental and they really do benefit in "the end".

Tyler the Magician

So this morning while I was in the kitchen, Tyler walks in and I noticed that he doesn't have his sippy cup with him. I ask him to please go get his sippy cup and pass it to Mommy. He usually does this and I put the sippy cup full of milk back in the fridge.

Well, he went to go get his sippy cup, or so I thought, but instead he came back with a diaper in his hand!!! I have no idea how he got it off because his jammies were still on and everything was still buttoned, the only thing I could think of was that he pulled it through one of the leg holes in his jammies! Thank God it wasn't very full!

Just so that you know, the diaper that he is holding in the photo is a clean one. I gave him one to hold on to so I could take a photo for this posting.

Bed of Roses

Kristin and Joe sent Steve and I a very special package the other day. It was roses to plant in our garden!!! Kristin had read about my Friendship Garden on the blog and thought that it would be nice to add some roses.

Kristin and Joe have started a huge rose garden in their yard. They had plans drawn up for it and even joined a rose society! So the roses they sent are very good quality roses. They have bare roots rather than forced to grow in a pot.

She gave me very specific directions on how to plant them. I first had to soak the roots in lukewarm water for a couple of days, then when planting I had to mix the soil with humus and set the roots in a nice mound, after testing the drainage of the soil first.

Kristin has me so excited about the roses that when I was at Lowe's today, I noticed they had roses on sale so I picked up another one, which I planted as soon as I came home.

Roses are my favourite scent! It brings back fond memories of summertime when I was younger because my mom has beautiful scented English roses in her yard. Steve and I thank you so much Kristin and Joe for your kindness!!! You can check out their elaborate rose garden by going to www.walkergardens.com

Oh by the way, Kristin is making great improvements on her leg! She is walking with the use of one crutch and a few times have tried walking without it! So glad to hear you are getting back on your feet again, Kristin!!!

Sales Team (or Potential Cooking Team?!)

This morning was an early rise. Met Ute and we went around the neighbourhood to put up our signs that we made the day before informing all to come to our yard sale. Unfortunately business was quite slow today. We assumed it was because it is close to the end of the pay period and not as many people have as much money left over until they get paid again. Despite the fact that sales were low, Ute and I still had a lot of fun. We spent most of the time drooling over her German cook books!

Playing at the Playground

This morning I took Tyler to the playground to have some fun and boy, did he ever!
He can have more fun at the playground now that he knows how to walk. He goes all over the place and goes from one thing to the next. Some of the things he tried playing on for the first time, such as the tube that you crawl through. He thought that was the greatest thing and we would play peek-a-boo through the holes on the side.
Of course, the swing is always a hit with him. I usually start him out on this so he can get used to the atmosphere and the kids running around.

Then it was off to a fire! Beep Beep Vroooom, here comes Tyler to the rescue!

We walked through the jungle gym, which he really liked a lot. He kept looking off to the sides to the other kids playing around him.

The best thing he liked today, by far, was the slide. In fact, we spent most of our time here. Once he went down it he wanted back up. First he would attempt to climb up the actual slide, until I showed him that he had to use the stairs. We went down the little slide a lot and then Mommy took him down the big slide with her. Overall, we both had a lot of fun playing at the playground.

Tyler Visits Annmarie Gardens

"Hmm..the one on the left seems to be more my size."

"You are funny looking."

"Your mom is gonna be mad if she sees you don't have your socks on."

"Walking is so much fun these days."

"Aww...are you in time out?"

"Come with me and play!"

"That's a pretty big high 5!"

"I really like this place, Mom. I had fun today."

I Like Potatoes

We had our hopes up today to go to a park, but because of the heavy rain last night and the looming clouds today we decided it was best to stay indoors. So after I finished running some errands, we went to Chick-fil-A for some breakfast. I shared my hashbrowns with Tyler. He absolutely loves potatoes. Tomorrow's weather is suppose to be back to our normal sunny and hot temperatures so we will do a park then.

Chick Choice

Tyler is definitely a boy who knows what he wants. Ute brought over some books for us to have that she used to read to her boys. And out of the several books that she gave us, Tyler keeps picking out the same book to read. It's the book ' Cheepy Chick's Holiday' by Lucy Kincaid, illustrated by Pamela Storey (I wonder if that's really her last name...LOL). He really loves this book a lot. It might be because of the bright yellow of the bird. Regardless of the reason, I'm just so happy he loves me to read to him.

Playpen Faces

Daddy's Day

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all of our dads. Sorry this message comes to you a day late; we had a very nice Father's Day spent with friends.

Tyler gave his daddy the movie 'Goonies'. It is one of Steve's favourites and now they can watch the movie together.

Tyler also picked out a puppy card for Steve. He liked this the best because when you open the card up, it makes a barking noise. Steve and Tyler had great fun with this yesterday.

Then Ute and Anthony invited us over to their house for a Father's Day feast. I use the word "feast" because that's exactly what it was. The amount of food was overwhelming; they had ribs, chicken wings, sausages, hot dogs, corn on the cob, green beans, potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. I made strawberry shortcake for dessert. We had a very nice time and we ended staying until late and that's why this Father's Day message comes a day late. Happy Father's Day again Steve!!! Tyler is so very lucky to have you as his dad.

Anybody Home?

Today when we were out in the yard planting some seeds that Sandy gave us, we noticed a turtle on the side of the house. I quickly showed Tyler and of course, he was just thrilled at the sight. The turtle however, didn't care too much us though. When we came around, the turtle went back into his shell. It was only after a few minutes that the turtle came back out of his little home and moved around to the backyard.

It was really neat to see the turtle in our yard. It is the same kind as my friend Christine's. We hope he will be a regular or make himself a home in our yard.

Two More Teeth

It's been a while since I lasted updated on how Tyler's teething is coming along. Since the last time I wrote, he got two more teeth in. The bottom left lateral incisor came in while we were in Arkansas in April and he got he got his first molar a couple of weeks ago. The molar came in on the bottom right side. This brings us to a total of 9 teeth now!

Most days are really good, however there are times throughout the day when he wants his teether which we keep in the freezer to soothe his gums on. No matter what the situation, Tyler always seems to be a good sport and we are so thankful to God for giving us such a wonderful little person in our lives.

Who is that Silly Little Boy???

Last night, we invited Ute over for dinner and while she was here we had some fun with Tyler. He already had on his Tyler Squarepants outfit, so we added some Dexter's Lab glasses and some large sneakers. The first sneakers belong to Dad, the second are Mom's.

When he had Mom's sneakers on, he actually started to walk around in the kitchen with them on! It was too funny, but that's our silly little boy for ya.

Tyler Squarepants Returns!!!

Wow, it's been 10 months since the last appearance of Tyler Squarepants. Hard to believe it's been that long; though a lot has happened with him since our last visit. He now does so much more and can explore Bikini Bottom (the place where Tyler Squarepants lives) by foot instead of just rolling around in the sand.

The first photo was taken this morning and the second photo was taken when he was just 5 months old!

This Tyler Squarepants episode was brought to you by Aunt Janell and Uncle Wyatt. Thank you so much for Tyler Squarepant's wardrobe!!! It is hilarious watching him walk around in his outfit!

Fossil Finds

After a full day of yard work, Steve thought it would be nice to unwind the day by going to a nearby beach that we haven't been to yet. A co-worker had been asking about the park associated with the beach and so Steve wanted to check it out for him. We also noticed that there was a cache at the beach that we haven't done yet.

The cache is part of a special series called 'Earth Caches' where you discover something in particular associated with geological formations of the earth. The earth cache that we found on Saturday had to do with fossils. The main requirement was to find five different types of fossils on the beach.

When we first arrived, Steve and I didn't find anything, but after a 15 minute search we began to find an abundance of fossils, most of which were made from shells.

My friend Christine used to take me fossil hunting out in Mira Gut, so our experience on Saturday really brought back fond memories of back home.

We hiked a total of 4 miles that afternoon and after a full day's worth of yard work, we were quite tired when we arrived back home.

Firefly Catching

Last night after we came home from a little drive around the area, we went in our backyard and noticed there were several fireflies out and about. It had been years seen Steve and I had seen fireflies and of course, it was Tyler's very first time seeing the bright lit bugs flying around at dusk.
We pointed them out to him and he was just fascinated! Then Steve suggested that we catch some and put them in a jar for him to look at inside. It was the very first time I caught fireflies. It was so much fun!

When we brought them inside, Tyler had a great time studying this new specimen. He just starred at them for the longest time, while Steve clicked away and got some photos of him with the jar. It was so much fun that we might have to do it again tonight! I can't wait!!!

A Splashin' Good Time

After our walk with Ute where we let Tyler out of his stroller and walk most of the way home, Tyler needed to cool down; so with that being said, we blew up his pool that I bought for him while in Arkansas and Tyler had some fun in the water.
He played with the rings by putting them on the ring holder. The stars had a little bells inside, so he had fun shaking them.

But it soon wasn't long before, he wanted out of the pool and wanted some real fun with the hose. It was getting splashed with the hose that he liked the best, and while we were playing with the hose, Mommy got stung by a bee on her heel, of all places...LOL. Ute had to pull the stinger out of her foot.

We would also like to send out birthday wishes to our neice, Abigail, who turns 2 years old today!!!

Books Are Fun Too

Right now, Tyler's favourite book is 'Baby Einstein's Music Is Fun' written by Kelli Kaufmann, illustrated by Nadeem Zaidi. It is a play-a-song book with buttons to push for classical music and different noises. I purchased this book last year when I was home visiting my parents, however it has only been in the last few weeks that Tyler has singled out this book in particular. Each day, he will lug the book down from his bedroom to the living room and hand it to me. It is the cutest thing to watch because the book is practically the same size as he is. He absolutely loves this book and hands it to me to read to him about 5-6 times a day!

His favourite part is the very last page where it reads "Lively music makes your hands clap,". As soon as I say the words 'lively music' he smiles and starts to clap.

The next part reads "...then you stomp your feet." He then stomps his feet on the floor.

He is such a cutie!!! I'm so glad that he has a good appreciation for books. I hope he will continue to have this appreciation throughout his life. I just love reading to him!!!
